Regional Theater:
Just the other night we had the privilege to see a regional community theater version of Godspell, the huge hit musical that played Off Broadway initially in the early seventies, then made in to Broadway in 1976. I had of course never seen it back then, probably thinking “too much religion”. In the aughts, my nephew (by marriage) starred in his high school production of the musical. But I missed it. Finally, now in my sixties, I had a chance to see what I’d been missing all these years. I have to say I loved the production. It was fresh, funny, and filled with great music and talented performers; all amateur, I should add. All donating their time and effort in the interest of art.
Regional theater is a wonderful thing. My parents took me to see two or three productions at our local theater when I was twelve or thirteen. I remember we saw “Forty Carats” and “The Last of the Red Hot Lovers” (a Neil Simon comedy). Both were great. There’s nothing better than sharing a mus…
